Authorities Crack Down on Quack Doctors in Ghaziabad; FIRs Filed Against 74 Practitioners

The Ghaziabad administration has launched a major crackdown against unlicensed and quack medical practitioners, after a survey revealed that 144 individuals have been operating illegally across the district, endangering public health. As part of the action, FIRs have been registered against 74 such practitioners, while investigations against the remaining individuals are ongoing.

Officials from the Health Department stated that many quacks were treating patients without proper certification, administering incorrect medicines, and running clinics without licenses. “These actions put lives at serious risk, especially in cases of critical illnesses,” said Dr. Akhilesh Mohan, Chief Medical Officer of Ghaziabad.

The survey indicated that quacks often operate in remote rural areas, exploiting the lack of access to legitimate healthcare. They frequently display fake degrees on clinic boards and charge lower fees to attract economically weaker patients, creating a deceptive but lucrative network. Many also open clinics far from their permanent residence to evade law enforcement.

Over the past year, more than 250 quacks have received notices, and complaints continue to pour in at a rate of 10–15 incidents per month. Many patients are referred to government hospitals only after receiving incorrect treatment or harmful medications from unqualified practitioners.

Authorities have also discovered that some quacks administer injections, drips, and even prohibited drugs without training. Patients are often misled into prolonged treatments, incurring heavy financial charges for ineffective care.

“Action will continue against those treating patients without licenses or distributing unauthorized medicines. We urge citizens to consult only registered doctors and accredited hospitals. Any information about illegal medical practice should be immediately reported to the Health Department or local authorities,” added Dr. Mohan.

Sensitive areas with the highest number of complaints include Vijay Nagar, Nandgram, Khoda, Loni, Modinagar, Muradnagar, Girdharpur, and Panchvati. Authorities have intensified monitoring and inspection campaigns in these regions to curb unsafe medical practices.

The recent drive follows similar action taken in July 2025, when 13 quacks operating clinics without degrees in Azad Vihar and Indira Vihar were booked. Officials confirm that investigations are ongoing to dismantle the network of unqualified practitioners across the district.
