Auraiya Dowry Death Case: Husband, Father-in-Law, and Brother-in-Law Sentenced to Life Imprisonment After 8 Years

In a landmark verdict, a court in Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced a husband, his father, and brother to life imprisonment in a dowry death case, handing financial penalties of ₹25,000 each. The decision, delivered eight years after the tragic incident, brings long-awaited justice to the victim’s family.

The case dates back to 2017. The deceased, 22-year-old Pinky, daughter of retired PAC CO Lakhpat Singh from Lakhna, Etawah, was married on 23 June 2017 to Jitendra Kumar Yadav alias Jeetu, a resident of Ajitmal. Soon after the wedding, Pinky was reportedly harassed by her in-laws over demands for a Scorpio car and ₹10 lakh as dowry.

Tragically, just five months into her marriage, on 21 November 2017, Pinky was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her marital home. Following a complaint lodged by her father, the police registered a case of dowry harassment and murder.

During the trial, Additional District Government Counsel Chandrabushan Tiwari emphasized that the death of a newlywed within just five months of marriage was a serious crime warranting the harshest punishment. After considering the evidence and witness statements, Additional Sessions Judge (First) Parul Jain pronounced the judgment.

The court found Jitendra Yadav, his father Padam Singh, and brother Amit Kumar Yadav guilty of the crime. All three have been sentenced to life imprisonment, along with a monetary fine of ₹25,000 each. This verdict delivers justice to Pinky’s family after eight long years of waiting.
