Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: A political spat has erupted between Samajwadi Party MLA Atul Pradhan and former BJP MLA Sangeet Som from the Sardhana assembly constituency in Meerut. The controversy escalated after Pradhan accused Som of hypocrisy regarding beef and meat businesses.
Atul Pradhan’s Allegations
A viral video of Atul Pradhan shows him accusing Sangeet Som of double standards. Pradhan claims that while Som criticizes Muslim players like Bangladesh’s cricketer in the Kolkata Knight Riders team and labels Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan as a “traitor,” he allegedly conducts beef-related business with Muslim associates, including Moin Quraishi. Pradhan also alleged that the government has spent ₹66 crore over 11 years on Som’s security, provided by both the state and central governments.
Pradhan further recalled past incidents where Som was allegedly targeted with hand grenades and gunfire, urging a CBI investigation into these unresolved cases.
Sangeet Som’s Response
In response, Sangeet Som dismissed the allegations, calling Atul Pradhan “like a younger brother” and stating that younger siblings often speak freely and are forgiven. Regarding the meat and beef factory claims, Som said he was unaware of the business and joked that Pradhan, as the “younger brother,” might have taken the meat from the factory.
Som’s remarks have added a lighter tone to the political spat, but the controversy continues to attract attention in the region due to its mix of politics, religion, and business interests.
