In a shocking late-night incident in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, unidentified miscreants attempted to loot a Bank of India ATM by cutting it open with a gas cutter. Despite their efforts, the criminals failed to extract any cash and fled the scene. The entire incident has been captured on CCTV, and police have launched an intensive search for the culprits.
According to reports, the attempted robbery occurred around midnight at the Bank of India ATM located on Hathras Road. The assailants, armed with a gas cutter, tried to slice open the cash vault but were unsuccessful in gaining access to the money.
The following morning, bank staff discovered the ATM severely damaged and immediately alerted the police. Upon receiving the information, the Circle Officer of Sikandrarao and the Station House Officer reached the site with heavy police deployment. Officers found the front panel of the ATM burnt and cut in several places, indicating the use of a gas cutter.
Police are thoroughly analyzing the CCTV footage from the ATM kiosk and neighboring establishments. Initial findings reveal that three youths arrived on a motorcycle and executed the attempted theft within 9–10 minutes before escaping.
The police also removed nearby encroachments—including generators, juice stalls, and other structures—using a JCB machine, sending a strong warning that any obstruction around ATM areas will not be tolerated. Strict legal action will be taken against violators.
Bank officials were present at the site and were briefed on the situation. Authorities confirmed that special teams, including the SOG and surveillance units, have been deployed to track down the accused.
Providing details, Additional Superintendent of Police (Hathras) Ramanand Kushwaha stated,
“The incident took place around midnight. An attempt was made to break open the ATM. A thorough investigation is underway, and dedicated teams have been formed to trace and arrest the criminals.”
