At 77, Former DAVV Vice Chancellor Reaches Collector’s Office with Wife, Alleges Assault by Son and Daughter-in-law

Indore: In a deeply distressing case, 77-year-old former Vice Chancellor of Devi Ahilya Bai University (DAVV), Professor Narendra Dhakad, approached the Indore Collector’s office along with his wife, alleging physical and mental harassment by their son and daughter-in-law. The elderly couple, both in wheelchairs, attended the public grievance hearing on Tuesday seeking justice and protection.

Allegations of Assault and Property Dispute

Professor Dhakad claimed that his son and daughter-in-law not only assaulted them but also forced them out of their home, allegedly to seize ownership of their college-related property. He told Collector Shivam Verma that both he and his wife have been enduring continuous physical and emotional abuse at the hands of their son’s family.

Collector Verma heard their plea attentively and directed ADM Roshan Rai to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter.

Son’s Counter-Allegation: Claims Father Assaulted Granddaughter

During the inquiry, Professor Dhakad’s son Amit Dhakad submitted video footage to the ADM, reportedly showing his father hitting his granddaughter. He alleged that the complaint filed by his parents was an attempt to divert attention from that incident. However, Amit also stated, “Despite everything, my parents are supreme for me, and I respect them deeply.”

Collector’s Statement: Efforts for Reconciliation First

Collector Shivam Verma confirmed that the complaint has been received and described it as a family dispute. He said, “We will first call both sides together and try to resolve the matter through understanding. If that doesn’t work, we will initiate further legal action.”

He also noted that the elderly couple claimed they had been evicted from their home and had their mobile phones confiscated. The administration has assured them of full cooperation and a fair investigation.

The case has sparked concern across Indore, highlighting the growing issue of elder abuse within families, even among highly educated and respected members of society.
