Patna: Bihar’s famed “Love Guru,” retired Patna University professor Matuknath Choudhary, is once again in the news, this time for a new chapter in his love life. Known across India for his controversial romance with student Julie in 2006, Choudhary, now 72, has shared a story of budding affection with a mysterious woman he calls his “Janu.”
A Curious Love Exchange
Choudhary posted on Facebook about a unique interaction with the woman, who expressed love for him—but on unusual terms. She asked him to read her literary works and provide detailed feedback, sparking a conversation about whether their connection was love or duty. Choudhary wrote, “I wondered, is this love or a duty? Love should be reciprocated naturally, not through a transaction. I told her I could not comply with such terms.”
However, the woman’s reply left the professor stunned: “Why should I give you love in return? You will do what you are capable of—read and write. That is enough.” When Choudhary protested, she added, “You can only awaken desire, not quench it.”
The Magic of ‘Janu’
Despite initially giving up on the budding romance, Choudhary describes how a single word—“Janu”—uttered by the woman rekindled his feelings. “Hearing ‘Janu’ brought life back to me,” he wrote. “The withered plant immediately sprang green and alive.” He vowed to engage with her works, read them, and provide feedback, strengthening their connection.
Memories of Julie
While Choudhary is now building a bond with his new “Janu,” he remains remembered in Bihar for his earlier romance with Julie. Their story began in 2006 when Choudhary, then a Hindi professor at Patna University, fell in love with his student. The relationship sparked nationwide attention, and he was briefly suspended from his post. After a legal battle, he was reinstated in 2013 and celebrated his victory with Julie, gifting her a car.
