New Delhi: The CBI has once again put the spotlight on a Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) previously arrested for accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh. Recent revelations show that the ASI’s influence over a particular area continues even after his transfer, raising serious questions about police accountability and possible complicity.
The Case:
The ASI in question, Sundar Pal Singh, was initially posted at Greater Kailash Police Station but later transferred to CR Park Police Station. The area in South Delhi where the CBI raid took place still falls under his former jurisdiction. Despite having no official reason to intervene, Singh allegedly returned to the area, pressuring the victim to pay ₹2.5 crore—of which ₹10 lakh was seized during the sting operation.
Details of the Incident:
The FIR reveals that the complainant, Prem Sood, a resident of Kailash Colony and a legal consultant, was involved in a property dispute with his brother Suresh Kumar Sood in 2024. Suresh had contacted the police, and Singh, posted at Greater Kailash at the time, got involved.
According to Prem Sood, Singh coerced him into selling his property and even facilitated the sale by introducing a buyer, Davinder Salwan. Although an agreement was reached in 2025, the deal fell through as Salwan did not pay the full amount.
In February 2026, Singh allegedly brought a new buyer, Amit Verma, who offered ₹6.75 crore for the property. Singh reportedly demanded ₹2.5 crore in cash to cancel the previous agreement with Salwan and an additional ₹25 lakh for himself, threatening Prem with fabricated legal cases if payment was not made.
SHO’s Role Questioned:
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Greater Kailash Police Station is also under scrutiny. Sources indicate that Singh leveraged his past posting and influence over the area to intimidate the victim, reportedly taking Prem to the SHO’s residence to reinforce the perception of his power. While no formal departmental action has been taken against the SHO yet, officials have indicated that the Vigilance Department will investigate the matter.
This incident raises serious concerns about corruption and abuse of power within the police, highlighting the urgent need for stricter oversight and accountability mechanisms.
