
Ashoknagar: In a shocking act of violence, a husband allegedly killed his wife following a minor domestic dispute and attempted to destroy evidence by setting her body on fire. The accused, Nannu Adivasi, strangled his wife, Ramkunwar (also known as Rani), with a gamchha (cotton towel) and then wrapped her body in a blanket before attempting to burn it.
Dispute Escalates to Murder
The incident occurred in Amaital village under Dehat police station. On Monday evening around 7:00 pm, a quarrel broke out between Ramkunwar and her husband Nannu Adivasi. In a fit of rage, Nannu reportedly strangled his wife with a gamchha, resulting in her death.
Quick Police Action
Dehat police received the information later that evening. Dehat Station In-Charge, Bhuvanesh Sharma, reached the site immediately, recorded statements from the family, and filed a case under Section 103(1) BNS. A manhunt for the accused began immediately. Within eight hours, the police arrested Nannu Adivasi.
Family Notified by Brother-in-Law
According to the deceased’s father, Man Singh, he was informed by his son-in-law Devendra Adivasi around 10 pm that Ramkunwar’s condition had worsened. When he reached the house in Amaital village, he found his daughter had already passed away. The family later learned from her elder brother-in-law that the couple had been having disputes over the past three to four days.
Attempt to Destroy Evidence
Police stated that after killing his wife, the accused tried to conceal the crime by wrapping her body in a blanket and setting it on fire. Neighbors noticed smoke and rushed to put out the fire, after which the family was informed. The case is under investigation, and the accused remains in police custody.
