Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh: Asad Khan from Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, has officially embraced Sanatan Dharma in a Vedic ceremony in Kashi and will henceforth be known as Atharv Tyagi. An engineer by profession, he had long been inclined towards Hinduism and temple worship, prompting his decision to convert.
Vedic Purification and Ceremony
Atharv Tyagi underwent a purification ritual and worship on a boat in the Ganga River in the presence of 21 Brahmins. His hair was cut, and a tilak was applied as part of the formal conversion process. A sacred homam was conducted, and he performed prayers and rituals at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, concluding with Ganga Aarti. The ceremony followed strict Vedic traditions, and he officially received the Hindu name Atharv Tyagi, belonging to the Kashyap gotra.
Childhood Inclination Towards Hinduism
Atharv stated that he had always enjoyed visiting temples and practicing Hindu rituals. However, being born into a Muslim family, he often faced restrictions at religious sites. His friends are predominantly Hindu, and he is a devoted follower of Lord Hanuman.
Incident at Mahakal Temple
Atharv revealed that the pivotal moment came when he and his friends were denied entry to the Mahakal Temple. Hurt by the experience, he sought guidance from local Brahmins in Varanasi, which led to his formal adoption of Hinduism.
Personal Commitment
He has chosen to live independently, following Hindu rituals and customs. Atharv emphasized that his conversion was entirely voluntary and conducted with complete devotion and transparency.
