Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh): A political and social controversy has erupted after Maulana Arshad Madani, President of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and Principal of Darul Uloom Deoband, made a strong and provocative statement during a public address on the issue of ‘Ghar Wapsi’ (religious reconversion).
Speaking at a Unity Conference, Madani reacted sharply to claims allegedly made by certain organisations regarding the reconversion of minorities. In his speech, he referred to statements suggesting that “20 crore Muslims” and “6 crore Christians” would be brought back into Hinduism under the ‘Ghar Wapsi’ campaign.
“Seems Like Only They Have Drunk Their Mother’s Milk”
During his address, Madani reportedly said that those making such statements appear to believe that only they have the courage and strength to speak boldly, remarking, “It seems as if only they have drunk their mother’s milk, and no one else has.”
His comment received loud applause from the audience present at the event. The video clip of the speech has now gone viral on social media, triggering sharp reactions from various quarters.
Madani Calls Such Statements a Threat to National Unity
Maulana Madani further stated that any voice or ideology that pushes the nation towards destruction, unrest, hatred, and internal conflict cannot be considered loyal to the country. He warned that such narratives could damage the unity and peace of India.
Alleges Rising Hate and Violence in the Country
In his speech, Madani alleged that hatred is being deliberately fuelled across the country and claimed that incidents of violence and lynching are increasing. He also referred to killings allegedly taking place in the name of cow protection and questioned the silence of the government over such incidents.
He further said that some people are openly declaring that only those who follow their ideology will be allowed to live in the country.
“Violation of the Constitution”
Madani described such thinking as a direct violation of the Indian Constitution, warning that it is extremely dangerous for the country’s unity, integrity, and peace. He asserted that Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has always opposed communal and hate-driven ideologies and will continue to do so.
He also declared that Muslims will continue to exist with their faith, stating that those who tried to erase Muslims have themselves disappeared, but Islam continues to remain alive.
Calls for Secular Values and Brotherhood
Emphasising the importance of secularism, Madani said peace and harmony in India are only possible under the protection of a secular Constitution. He stressed that violence in the name of religion is unacceptable and that all religions promote humanity, tolerance, love, and unity.
He urged people to condemn and oppose those who misuse religion to spread hatred and violence.
