Arms Cache Recovered Near International Border After Drone Sighting, Security Tightened in Samba

Jammu: Security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition near the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district following reports of suspicious drone activity in the area. The recovery has triggered heightened security and a detailed investigation into a possible cross-border arms smuggling attempt.

The incident took place in the Ghagwal area, close to the International Border, where local residents reported spotting a drone hovering over the village late at night.

Drone Spotted Hovering Over Village

According to official sources, villagers noticed a drone hovering in the sky for nearly two minutes late on Thursday night. A small light was seen moving overhead, prompting residents to immediately alert security agencies.

Acting on the information, police and other security forces launched a joint search operation in the area. During the operation, a suspicious packet was recovered from Palura village.

Pistols, Grenade and Ammunition Seized

Upon opening the packet, security personnel recovered two pistols, one hand grenade, three magazines, and around 16 rounds of pistol ammunition. The two pistols were of different make. Officials believe the weapons were dropped using a drone, indicating a possible attempt to supply arms to terror-linked or criminal networks.

Security agencies view the seizure as a significant success in thwarting a potential arms smuggling operation with possible links to terrorism.

Area Sealed, Investigation Underway

Following the recovery, the entire area was sealed, and surveillance has been intensified along the border belt. Security forces have stepped up monitoring to trace the intended recipients of the weapons and identify the network involved in drone-based arms delivery.

Police officials said preliminary investigations clearly indicate that the weapons were dropped via drone. Efforts are underway to establish who was meant to receive the consignment and whether similar attempts have been made in the past.

The incident has once again highlighted the growing threat of drone-based infiltration and smuggling along the International Border, prompting security agencies to remain on high alert.

Further investigation is in progress.
