Gwalior: A tense exchange broke out between farmers and a woman naib tehsildar during a crop damage survey in Bhitarwar area of Gwalior district after villagers surrounded the official to voice their grievances over hailstorm losses.
The incident occurred in Kachhua village on Tuesday morning, where administrative teams had been sent following heavy rain and hail that reportedly caused significant crop damage. As the officer arrived with her team, a group of farmers gathered around her vehicle seeking immediate attention to their complaints.
According to witnesses, the situation escalated when the officer asked the crowd to step back, leading to a heated argument. Upset farmers responded by telling the official to leave if she was unwilling to hear them out.
SDM intervenes to calm tensions
As the dispute intensified, SDM Rajiv Samadhiya reached the spot and intervened to restore order. He assured the farmers that a proper and transparent survey would be conducted and that compensation would be provided in proportion to the damage suffered.
Following the assurance, the crowd dispersed and the survey work resumed.
The district administration had launched the assessment drive on the instructions of Collector Ruchika Chauhan after reports of widespread crop loss due to early morning hailstorms. Officials said the survey would continue across affected villages to ensure eligible farmers receive relief.
