Ara, Bihar: Travelling from Ara to Indore has now become a major challenge for passengers after the withdrawal of the only train connecting the two cities. The sudden suspension of the special train service has sparked widespread resentment among residents of Bhojpur district, who say the decision has disrupted an important travel route for thousands of people.
Until recently, passengers from Ara could travel directly to Indore without having to shift to another major station. However, with the train now discontinued, travellers are being forced to cover extra distance and spend additional money to reach alternative railway junctions.
Which Train Has Been Discontinued?
The only train operating from Ara Junction to Indore as a special service — 09343/44 Patna–Ambedkar Nagar–Indore Special — has been withdrawn. With its closure, Ara has effectively lost its direct rail connectivity with Indore. At present, there is no regular train running directly between Ara and Indore.
Passengers Forced to Travel via Patna or DDU Junction
After the discontinuation, passengers travelling to Indore or Ujjain must now first reach Patna Junction or Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction (DDU). Both stations are located at a considerable distance from Ara, causing inconvenience, increased travel time, and higher expenses.
Only after reaching these stations can passengers access trains like the 19313/14 and 19321/22 Patna–Indore Express, which are currently the available options for Indore-bound travel.
Ara Junction Generates Huge Revenue
Ara Junction has witnessed a steady rise in passenger traffic due to the city’s expansion, population growth, and strong connectivity with nearby districts. Railway sources claim that Ara Junction is among the highest revenue-generating stations in the Shahabad region, contributing more than ₹115 crore annually.
Despite such revenue and passenger demand, the absence of a direct train service to Indore has left commuters frustrated.
Demand for Halt of Patna–Indore Express at Ara
Following the withdrawal of the special train, passengers and railway organisations have intensified their demand for a stoppage of the Patna–Indore Express at Ara Junction.
Ara district sends a large number of devotees to Ujjain every year, particularly elderly pilgrims. Additionally, many residents of Ara work and live in Indore and other cities of Madhya Pradesh. The train withdrawal has severely impacted both groups.
Railway organisations stated that several memorandums have been submitted to local MP Sudama Prasad, but with no response so far, protest and agitation are now being planned to press for the restoration of service or stoppage at Ara.
