Mirzapur: In a major law-and-order crackdown, the district head of Apna Dal Kamerawadi, Shyam Bahadur Patel, along with two others, has been arrested for involvement in cattle theft in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. Patel, who also serves as the Pradhan of his village, allegedly collaborated with the caretaker of a cow shelter, Rajesh Kol, to illegally steal cattle over a prolonged period.
The incident came to light at the Goshram (cow shelter) in Sonvarsha, Lalganj, where police were alerted to cattle being smuggled. On Tuesday, Anil Prajapati was caught transporting five stolen cows, and subsequent interrogation led to the arrest of Patel and the other accused.
Criminal Record of Accused
Police sources revealed that Shyam Bahadur Patel has a previous criminal record. In 2021, an FIR was lodged against him for obstructing government duties and involvement in a physical assault.
Authorities received intelligence on January 26 that cattle were being smuggled from the shelter. In response, three police teams were deployed to intercept and apprehend the accused.
This arrest highlights the UP police’s increased vigilance against organized cattle theft and reinforces efforts to protect livestock and prevent illegal trade.
