New Delhi: It has been over a year since the BJP government assumed office in the national capital, yet the chairman positions in Delhi’s APMC (Agricultural Produce Market Committee) markets remain vacant. Additionally, the market committees have not been formed, causing significant difficulties for traders. Pending issues include renewal of licenses and processing of new license applications, which remain stalled.
Development Projects on Hold
Several large-scale development projects have also been delayed due to the vacancies. Traders’ organizations have repeatedly urged the government to fill the posts promptly. The previous administration saw the APMC chairman positions remain vacant due to disputes between the Lieutenant Governor (LG) and the Delhi government. The new government has recently formed the Delhi Agriculture Marketing Board, but traders note that development work in the markets is still lagging.
Long-Pending Issues in Markets
In Narela Grain Market, allocations of shops for traders have been pending for 40 years, highlighting the need for immediate government attention. Sandeep Khandelwal, a trader from Azadpur Fruit and Vegetable Market, said that the absence of a market chairman has slowed pending work, and authorities should have been empowered to expedite stalled projects.
Traders Await Market Committee Elections
Traders hope that elections for the market committees and members will be held soon. Now that the Delhi Agriculture Marketing Board has been established and held its first meeting, attention is focused on when pending tasks in the markets will be completed.
