Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh – In a major operation against drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has arrested a notorious smuggler, Kamlesh Rawat, from Barabanki. Authorities recovered 522 grams of heroin, valued at approximately ₹1.05 crore in the international market, from his possession.
Details of the Arrest
The operation, led by the local Superintendent of Police, targeted Rawat, a known drug trafficker. During interrogation, Rawat admitted that he procured narcotics from suppliers and distributed them on commission. He also revealed that after suffering a leg injury 4–5 years ago, which left him physically disabled, he turned to drug trafficking due to inability to perform physically demanding work.
Ongoing Investigation
The ANTF confirmed that the arrest has provided critical intelligence on the drug network. Based on forward and backward linkages, authorities are now tracing other associates involved in the trafficking chain. Police officials believe that this arrest delivers a significant blow to the local supply of narcotics and will help tighten control over drug trafficking in the region.
Previous Seizures
Earlier, on November 30, the ANTF, in a joint operation with Vibhutikhand police in Lucknow, had intercepted three smugglers in an Artiga car, recovering 550 grams of heroin worth around ₹1.5 crore.
This latest operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement to dismantle drug networks and curb the growing menace of narcotics in Uttar Pradesh.
