Baran, Rajasthan: The vote counting for the Anta Assembly by-election 2025 is underway, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded local leader Morpall Suman as its candidate, hoping to consolidate grassroots support. So far, after seven rounds of counting, Suman has struggled to make a strong showing, remaining behind his rivals.
Round-Wise Vote Tally for Morpal Suman
- First Round – 3,135 votes
- Second Round – 5,266 votes
- Third Round – 7,705 votes
- Fourth Round – 9,659 votes
- Fifth Round – 12,286 votes
- Sixth Round – 15,988 votes
- Seventh Round – 15,988 votes
A Local Leader with Grassroots Influence
Morpall Suman is currently the President of the Baran Panchayat Committee and has been actively involved with the BJP organization for several years. His family also has a strong political background in local governance; his wife, Nati Bai Suman, has served as a panchayat member since 2010 and is currently the sarpanch of Tisaya village.
Political Journey: From Panchayat to Assembly Candidate
Suman began his political career in 1995 as a member of the Baran Panchayat Committee. He became sarpanch in 2000 and attempted to contest the district council elections in 2015, though his nomination was rejected. Despite this setback, he remained active in the party, maintaining strong organizational ties.
BJP’s Strategy: Focusing on Local Sentiment
In previous elections, BJP had fielded external candidates for the Anta seat, including Prabhulal Saini (2013, 2018) and Kanwarlal Meena (2023). However, this time the party focused on a local face with community influence, nominating Suman from the Mali community, which holds significant sway in the region alongside the Saini community.
Campaign Momentum
During the campaign, Suman received strong support from local party workers, with senior BJP leaders actively campaigning in his favor. The party hopes that his grassroots connection and local popularity will overcome challenges posed by the Congress candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya and independent candidate Naresh Meena.
As vote counting progresses, all eyes are on whether BJP’s gamble on a local leader will succeed or if opposition forces will prevent Suman from clinching the seat.
