
Baran, Rajasthan: The vote counting for the Anta Assembly by-election 2025 began early today, with 14 tables set up for counting 20 rounds of EVM votes. Counting of postal ballots has already been completed. The election has turned into a triangular contest between BJP’s Morpal Suman, Congress’ Pramod Jain Bhaya, and independent candidate Naresh Meena. The final outcome is expected to be clear by this afternoon.

Candidate Backgrounds
- Pramod Jain Bhaya (Congress): A veteran leader and former minister, Bhaya has consistently led the Congress campaign in Anta. He emerged as the front-runner from early rounds, maintaining a clear lead throughout.
- Naresh Meena (Independent): A young and ambitious independent candidate, Meena has steadily gained ground and overtook the BJP candidate in multiple rounds, showcasing a strong local support base.
- Morpall Suman (BJP): A local BJP leader and grassroots activist, Suman’s campaign was strongly backed by party leadership, including former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Despite early momentum, he has remained in third place in most rounds, with disappointing results even in his home region of Tisaya.
Voting and Counting Details
- Voter Turnout: The by-election saw a strong turnout of over 80%, with 96,141 male voters, 86,955 female voters, and 3 others casting their votes. Among 2,111 differently-abled voters, 1,929 voted (91.38%).
- Ballot Papers: 293 ballot papers were counted, with 16 invalidated.
- Counting Process: EVM counting began after the completion of ballot paper counting, with 14 tables and strict security arrangements at the Baran Government College.
With counting still underway, all eyes are on whether Congress’ Bhaya will maintain his lead, if Naresh Meena will continue his surge, or whether BJP’s Suman can stage a comeback in the final rounds.
