Another Narrow Escape in Greater Noida: Car Falls into Drain at Dangerous 90-Degree Bend in Kasna, Authorities Questioned

Greater Noida, Feb 2:In a terrifying incident reminiscent of the Yuvraj Mehta tragedy in Sector-150, a car plunged into a drain at a sharp 90-degree bend near Kasna Bhati roundabout in Greater Noida on Saturday night. Fortunately, both occupants emerged unscathed, but the incident has once again raised serious questions about road safety and the preparedness of the Greater Noida Authority.

According to local reports, Sunil Kumar was traveling with his driver Rizwan around 3 a.m. from Luksar towards Pari Chowk when the accident occurred. Their car, reportedly affiliated with Ola Taxi, lost visibility in dense fog near the roundabout. Unable to navigate the sharp turn in low visibility, the vehicle veered straight into a roadside drain.

Fortunately, the water level in the drain was low, and the car remained upright, allowing both occupants to exit safely. The incident was reported to Dial-112, and police teams arrived promptly to extract the vehicle.

The following day, a team from the Greater Noida Authority visited the site, placing wooden barriers and reflective tape to temporarily secure the area. Earlier attempts had been made to cover the drain with soil, but these measures have proven inadequate, residents said.

Local Concerns Over Longstanding Safety Risks
Residents claim that the Kasna Bhati roundabout has been a hotspot for accidents for years. They allege that despite repeated complaints, no permanent safety measures—such as warning boards, reflectors, or adequate street lighting—have been installed. Dense fog and darkness make the area particularly hazardous at night.

“The authority only carries out temporary fixes after such incidents. They do not provide a permanent solution,” a local resident said, questioning whether officials are waiting for a major, potentially fatal accident to occur.

This incident comes after the tragic death of software engineer Yuvraj Mehta in Sector-150, who lost his life when his car fell into a water-filled construction basement. Following that tragedy, the Greater Noida Authority had claimed to identify and rectify multiple black spots in the city. However, the Kasna accident exposes the gap between those assurances and the reality on the ground.

Officials have been urged to take urgent measures to prevent future accidents, including proper signage, street lighting, reflective markings, and realignment or redesign of hazardous bends. Local residents fear that without such permanent solutions, more accidents may follow.
