New Delhi: A video from Sagarpur Police Station sparked outrage among Delhi lawyers on Thursday, prompting plans for a protest outside the station. Following discussions with police officials, the lawyers agreed to call off the demonstration, after assurances that strict action had been taken.
Immediate Action by Police
The police confirmed that a vigilance inquiry has been initiated in response to the incident. As part of the disciplinary measures, one Sub-Inspector has been suspended, while another SI has been placed on administrative duty alongside the Sagarpur SHO and transferred to the South-West District.
The Controversy
The issue arose from a video that went viral among the legal community on Thursday. In it, some Sagarpur police personnel were seen preventing a woman from seeking a lawyer’s assistance and allegedly making inappropriate remarks about lawyers.
Lawyers’ Response
Delhi lawyers expressed their anger after watching the video. A group of them immediately visited the Sagarpur police station to register their protest. Following discussions with the authorities, the lawyers’ committee reported that the police had taken the matter seriously and acted promptly to address the concerns.
The incident has highlighted tensions between legal professionals and law enforcement, and authorities have assured strict monitoring and accountability to prevent recurrence.
