AMU Student Fakes His Own Kidnapping, Demands ₹8 Lakh Ransom From Father; Police Crack Case in 30 Minutes

Aligarh:
In a shocking incident, a second-year B.Com student of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) staged his own kidnapping after losing a large sum of money in online gaming. Along with a friend, the student crafted a fake abduction plot and demanded a ransom of ₹8 lakh from his own father. The incident triggered panic within the police department, prompting immediate action under Operation Smile. Within half an hour, the police located the youth and exposed the fabricated story.

The Case: How the Fake Kidnapping Began

The incident was reported from Krishna Nagar, Baroula Bypass in Aligarh’s Bannadevi police station area.
Satyaveer Singh, a retired Junior Engineer from the Irrigation Department, informed the police around 2:45 PM on Tuesday that his 20-year-old son, Krishna—an AMU B.Com second-year student—had been abducted from home by unknown miscreants.

The father also received a demand for ₹8 lakh ransom, claiming his son would only be released upon payment. The news sent shockwaves through the police force, and multiple teams were immediately deployed for the student’s rescue.

SSP Deploys Four Teams, CCTV & Mobile Surveillance Used

Considering the seriousness of the reported kidnapping, SSP Aligarh Neeraj Jadon formed four teams under the supervision of CO (Second) Kamlesh Kumar.
The teams swiftly scanned CCTV footage, tracked mobile phone locations, and questioned local residents.

Within just 30 minutes, police traced the student’s mobile location to Khair Road, behind Gagan Public School. A police team reached the spot and recovered the youth from a deserted dirt track.

Truth Revealed: Student Confesses to Fabricating the Kidnapping

CO Kamlesh Kumar, while briefing the media, confirmed that the kidnapping was entirely staged by the student.
During interrogation, the youth revealed that he had lost a significant amount of money in online gaming, pushing him to plot the false abduction with the help of a friend. The intention was to extract money from his father to recover the losses.

Both individuals involved are students. Considering their age and the future consequences of legal action, the families requested leniency. After issuing a stern warning, the police released both youths without initiating formal proceedings.

Police Urge Parents to Monitor Online Gaming Activities

The case highlights a growing concern over excessive online gaming and its financial impact on youth. Police have appealed to parents to stay vigilant and monitor their children’s digital activities to prevent such incidents.
