Amroha Woman Asks Police Not to Harass Family After Eloping With Lover

Amroha, Uttar Pradesh: In a remarkable incident from Alhapur Milk village in Amroha district, a young woman named Manisha has eloped with her lover, Rupchand, and has requested the police not to harass her family. The case, connected to a love marriage, has attracted widespread attention after a video recorded by Manisha went viral on social media.

In the video, Manisha clearly states, “I am an adult. I came with him of my own free will. He did not bring me here. I request the police not to trouble our family.” She added that she is 18 years old and fully aware of her decisions. She confirmed that she has married Rupchand and that she came with him on her own accord. “They (her family) initially refused to take me along, but I told them I would end my life if they did not let me go,” she said.

Family Pressure and Safety Concerns

Manisha claimed that upon learning about her relationship, her mother advised her to run away or even threatened self-harm, allegedly to avoid spending ₹10–12 lakh on her marriage. She has urged the Hasanpur police not to harass Rupchand’s family, who were unaware of the marriage.

Police Action Underway

Due to threats to her and her husband’s safety from her family, Manisha has sought police protection. She warned that any harm to her or Rupchand’s family would be the responsibility of her own relatives. The Hasanpur police are now investigating the matter based on the video and are attempting to make contact with the couple.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by young couples in love marriages, particularly in rural areas where familial opposition can escalate tensions.
