Patna, Bihar: In a move aimed at enhancing passenger comfort, Indian Railways has introduced new rules for the Amrit Bharat Express Phase II trains starting January 2026. Under the new guidelines, RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) and waitlisted tickets will no longer be issued for these trains, ensuring that every passenger travels with a confirmed seat. Additionally, a special quota has been set aside for senior citizens and women, with priority given to lower berths.
Confirmed Seating and Quota Rules
The Amrit Bharat II trains will now operate under a strict and transparent seating allocation system. The previous system of half-seats in the sleeper class has been discontinued. The trains will provide special quotas only for women, senior citizens (men above 60, women above 45), and differently-abled passengers. Within these categories, lower berths will be assigned on a priority basis.
Minimum Fare Based on Distance
The railway has also introduced minimum fare rules based on travel distance. Passengers traveling less than 200 km will still be required to pay the fare for 200 km (₹149), while in the general class, the minimum fare for 50 km will be ₹36. This ensures uniformity in fare collection for short-distance travelers.
Enhanced Monitoring with Technology
To ensure smooth implementation, the Railway Board has strengthened technical and operational monitoring of the Amrit Bharat Express services. The Amrit Bharat II will function as a premium budget train, offering high-class facilities at affordable prices, along with a guarantee of confirmed travel. Existing rules will continue to apply for passengers traveling in general coaches, with these changes applicable only to reserved compartments.
