A disturbing case from Amethi has raised serious questions about women’s safety in Uttar Pradesh. An intermediate-level student, allegedly harassed and threatened repeatedly, has decided to skip her board examinations out of fear. Despite lodging complaints with the police, the accused reportedly continued to intimidate her.
The incident took place in Shiv Datt Tiwari Ka Purwa under Jamo police station limits. The student, tormented by persistent harassment, has reportedly lost the courage to appear for her exams. Shockingly, the harassment occurred just a few steps from the local police station, yet the perpetrators showed no fear of law enforcement.
The victim’s family approached the police, leading to a case being registered against three accused. However, two of them were reportedly fined under minor “disturbing public peace” charges, while one remains outside the reach of legal action.
Speaking to media, the victim’s elder sister revealed, “On February 13, my sister went to collect her exam admit card. These individuals harassed her on the way, tried to touch her, and frightened her so much that she couldn’t bring herself to appear for the exams. We now accompany her to the exam center for safety. They constantly threaten her to settle matters, saying, ‘Do not go ahead, otherwise we will harm you.’”
The family has demanded strict punishment, saying, “We want these people to face such consequences that they never harass anyone again. These boys roam freely in the village, neither studying nor earning, and continue to terrorize girls.”
The student’s mother, Zaharul Nisha, filed a formal complaint against the main accused, Rais Sandeep Aklam, on February 18. The Jamo police officer-in-charge, Vinod Singh, confirmed that the case is under investigation and assured that further action will be taken.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about the effectiveness of law enforcement in protecting young women from harassment, especially in rural areas.
