Amethi: Allegations of Corruption Surface Against SDM Abhinav Kannaujia, Matter Reaches State Assembly Speaker

A serious administrative controversy has erupted in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, raising alarms across the local bureaucracy. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Abhinav Kannaujia, posted in Musafirkhana Tehsil, is facing serious allegations of corruption and misconduct towards lawyers. The matter has now reached the Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, signaling its escalation beyond the tehsil level.

In a petition sent by Ved Prakash Shukla, President of the Musafirkhana Bar Association, it is alleged that SDM Kannaujia has repeatedly flouted revenue rules to issue arbitrary orders. When these orders are questioned, the petition claims, the SDM has allegedly misbehaved with the lawyers involved.

The petition also emphasizes that the official accused of corruption is in a position to influence internal investigations, rendering any departmental inquiry unreliable. Consequently, the Bar Association has demanded the removal of the SDM and called for a high-level independent probe into the allegations.

The Assembly Secretariat has formally forwarded the complaint to the District Magistrate of Amethi, indicating that the issue has now become a sensitive administrative concern at the state level. Local lawyers have warned that failure to take timely action could undermine the credibility of the entire judicial system.

The exposure of this petition has triggered heightened activity within administrative circles from Amethi to Lucknow, reflecting the seriousness of the allegations and the urgency for accountability.
