Ambulance Bursts Into Flames in Gujarat: Newborn Among Four Burnt Alive

Ahmedabad / Aravalli:
Gujarat witnessed a chilling tragedy late Monday night when an ambulance transporting a critically ill newborn from Aravalli to Ahmedabad suddenly caught fire. In the horrific blaze, four people—including the newborn, the father, a doctor, and a nurse—were burnt alive. By the time firefighters reached the spot, the vehicle had already turned to ashes.

Ambulance Turns Into a Fireball Within Seconds

The incident took place near Rana Saiyed, Modasa, around 1 am. CCTV footage shows the ambulance moving along the road when a sudden flash of intense sparking appears beneath the vehicle. The driver immediately stopped, but the flames spread so rapidly that those inside had no chance to escape.

Eyewitnesses at a nearby petrol pump watched helplessly as the ambulance erupted into a massive fireball. The blaze was so fierce that people standing just meters away were unable to approach the vehicle.

The ambulance belonged to Orange Hospital, Ahmedabad.

Possible Short Circuit Triggered the Fire

Preliminary investigation suggests a short circuit inside the ambulance. The fire spread within seconds, engulfing the entire vehicle.
Officials said:

  • Newborn being shifted for treatment died instantly.
  • Three others—the infant’s father, an accompanying doctor, and a nurse—also died trapped inside.
  • Other passengers sustained severe burn injuries and have been admitted to a hospital.

Fire brigade teams managed to douse the flames, but it was too late to save the victims.

Police Launch Investigation

Police have begun a detailed probe into the cause of the fire, mechanical condition of the ambulance, and possible negligence in maintenance.
Authorities are also analyzing the CCTV footage for technical clues.

This devastating incident has raised serious questions about ambulance safety standards, especially at a time when emergency medical transportation is a critical lifeline.
