Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has taken strict action against teachers in Uttar Pradesh who obtained jobs using fake documents. The court has ordered not only the cancellation of such appointments but also the recovery of salaries paid to these teachers.
Justice Manju Rani Chauhan issued the directive while rejecting a petition by Deoria-based assistant teacher Garima Singh, who was accused of securing her appointment using fraudulent documents. The court directed the Principal Secretary of Basic Education to investigate all teachers who gained employment through collusion or deceit and take appropriate action. It also called for strict disciplinary and punitive measures against officials found complicit in such appointments or who deliberately ignored the violations. The court has allowed six months for completing this process.
The court expressed serious concern over the failure of responsible officials to act against illegal appointments despite repeated government circulars and directives. “Such negligence not only encourages fraud but also undermines the integrity of the education system, causing serious harm to students’ interests,” the court observed.
Highlighting a disturbing pattern, the court noted that a significant number of assistant teachers have obtained jobs through forged certificates, fake documents, or by deliberately concealing vital information. Many of these individuals have remained in service for years, compromising the quality of education provided to students.
In the case at hand, the petitioner was appointed as an assistant teacher on July 27, 2010. After nearly 15 years of service, her appointment was canceled by the BSA on August 6, 2025, on grounds that the documents she submitted were fraudulent. While the petitioner claimed all her documents had been verified at the time of appointment, the BSA contended that the documents were indeed forged. The High Court emphasized that this is not merely an individual grievance but a matter of systemic corruption. Accordingly, the government must cancel all illegal appointments and recover public funds disbursed to individuals who secured employment through fraudulent means.
