Aligarh/Sitamarhi: In a sensational twist to a case that grabbed nationwide attention last year, a woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh — who had allegedly eloped with her future son-in-law — has now reportedly fled again, this time with her brother-in-law. The complainant has claimed that she also took away cash and jewellery worth lakhs.
The incident has once again sparked widespread discussion in the region, with the unusual family dispute taking an even more dramatic turn.
Case That Made Headlines Returns With a New Twist
The woman, identified as Sapna, a resident of a village in the Madrak area of Aligarh, had reportedly run away in April 2025 with Rahul, the man who was engaged to her daughter. The incident had become a major talking point across the country.
After a few days, Sapna returned, but she insisted on staying with Rahul. Following counselling sessions, police reportedly allowed the two to live together.
Rahul later shifted with Sapna to Sitamarhi district in Bihar, where he is currently engaged in the clothing business.
Rahul Claims Sapna Was in Contact With Sister and Brother-in-Law
Rahul has now alleged that Sapna had been in touch with her daughter, sister, and brother-in-law for several days. He claimed that her sister had earlier issued threats, but the matter appeared to have been resolved through conversation.
However, Rahul stated that on February 6, while he was away at work, Sapna’s brother-in-law came to their residence and allegedly persuaded her to leave with him.
According to Rahul, Sapna took along ₹2 lakh in cash and jewellery before disappearing.
Police Jurisdiction Issue Adds to Confusion
Rahul initially approached the local police in Sitamarhi, Bihar, but claimed he received no assistance. He then travelled to Aligarh and filed a complaint at the Dadon police station.
Confirming the complaint, Dadon Station House Officer Sarita Dwivedi said that the incident occurred in Bihar, and therefore, local police in Aligarh may not be able to take direct action due to jurisdiction limitations.
Husband Allegedly Remarried
Sapna reportedly has two children — a daughter whose marriage was scheduled and a son. Locals have claimed that after the woman’s earlier elopement with her daughter’s fiancé, her husband went on to marry another woman.
According to villagers, the husband remarried about 15 days ago.
Matter Remains Under Discussion
The unusual chain of events has once again become the subject of intense discussion in Aligarh and surrounding areas. With multiple claims and cross-state involvement, the case continues to attract public attention.
Police officials have stated that further action may depend on coordination between authorities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
