Aligarh: In a major breakthrough, Aligarh Police arrested notorious history-sheeter Omprakash alias Shaka, a criminal carrying a reward of ₹50,000, following an encounter on Thursday. Shaka had opened fire on Constable Dev Dixit of Tappal Police Station on 9 November 2025, leaving him seriously injured.
According to the police, Shaka—listed as a hardened offender at Tappal Police Station—had fired upon a police team when they attempted to arrest him last month. The firing left Constable Dev Dixit injured, while Shaka, along with his accomplice Nishant, managed to flee the scene. A case was registered at Tappal Police Station, and multiple teams from Tappal Police, the Crime Branch, and the SOG launched a manhunt to track him down.
Acting on a tip-off that Shaka would be returning to the Tappal area, a joint team of Tappal Police and SWAT/Surveillance units conducted a strategic cordon. Sensing that he was surrounded, Shaka opened fire once again with intent to kill the police officers. The police retaliated, managing to overpower and arrest him in an injured condition.
Authorities recovered a country-made pistol and live cartridges from his possession. He has been admitted to a hospital for treatment under police security.
Senior officials confirmed that Shaka is wanted in more than 10 criminal cases in Aligarh and nearby districts, including attempted murder, assault, and illegal arms possession.
Police say his arrest marks a significant action against organised criminal activity in the region, bringing relief to residents who had long feared his violent activities.
