Aligarh History-Sheeter ‘Shaka’ Loses Leg After Police Encounter Injury

Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh: Doctors were forced to amputate the leg of history-sheeter Omprakash, alias Shaka, a wanted criminal with a ₹50,000 bounty, following complications from injuries sustained during a police encounter.

Shaka was critically injured during a police shootout in Tapal area on the night of 3 December. He sustained gunshot wounds in both legs — near the thigh of his left leg and the knee of his right leg. The right leg, in particular, became severely damaged, leaving him incapacitated. After the encounter, he was admitted to JN Medical College for treatment.

Over time, infection set in, and gangrene developed in his injured leg, forcing doctors to take the drastic step of amputation to save his life. Shaka’s treatment is ongoing at the medical facility.

Jail authorities confirmed the incident. Jail Superintendent Bijendra Singh Yadav stated that despite initial treatment at the prison hospital, Shaka’s condition worsened, necessitating his referral back to JN Medical College. The amputation was successfully carried out on Sunday.

Shaka had been involved in shooting a police officer, and his capture and subsequent encounter had made headlines across the district. Authorities continue to monitor his recovery closely, while legal proceedings against him remain ongoing.
