Faridabad/New Delhi: In the aftermath of the terror blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, Al-Falah University in Faridabad has come under intense scrutiny for its alleged links to terrorist activities. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sought a detailed report from the university administration, while the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has suspended the university’s membership.
Recognition at Risk
The university, which received recognition in 2014, may face revocation of its accreditation. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) had already issued a “Show Cause” notice after discovering that the university was displaying invalid accreditation certificates on its website. NAAC noted that Al-Falah University falsely claimed Grade-A accreditation for three of its colleges despite the grading no longer being valid.
University Allegedly Linked to Terror Activities
Al-Falah University’s sprawling 70-acre campus in Dhauj, Faridabad, managed by the Al-Falah Trust, has drawn national attention after explosives were seized from faculty members linked to the institution. Investigations revealed that Dr. Mujammil Shakeel was arrested and his associate, Dr. Umar Nabi Muhammad, executed the blast. Another faculty member, Dr. Shaheen Saeed, has also been implicated. Authorities are probing whether the university had become a hub for extremist activities, plotting attacks on national targets.
Government and Security Response
Union Home Minister Amit Shah affirmed that strict action will be taken to ensure that such attacks are deterred. The UGC and state authorities are reviewing the university’s accreditation and operational compliance. NAAC has given the university 15 days to respond to its notice, after which further action regarding recognition may be taken.
The incident has raised serious questions about university oversight and accountability, as the institution allegedly provided a cover for extremist activities while misrepresenting its academic credentials.
