AKuno National Park Set for a Landmark Moment: Cheetah Veera and Her Cubs to Be Released into the Wild on International Cheetah Day

Sheopur News:
Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh is all set for a historic event on December 4, as Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will release three cheetahs—female cheetah Veera and her two 10-month-old cubs—into the open forest. The event coincides with International Cheetah Day and marks a major milestone in India’s ambitious and evolving Cheetah Reintroduction Project.

A Big Boost to India’s Cheetah Conservation Efforts

According to wildlife officials, Veera has proven to be a strong and healthy mother. Her cubs are also showing all signs of becoming independent and powerful predators as they grow. The trio will be released into the Paronda forest zone, which is open for tourists. Officials believe this will significantly enhance eco-tourism and deepen public participation in wildlife conservation.

India’s Cheetah Project Reaches New Heights

The project, initiated under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, began on September 17, 2022—when eight cheetahs were brought from Namibia to Kuno on his birthday. Three years later, the project has taken substantial strides.
The combined cheetah population in Kuno Palpur and Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary has now risen to 32, reflecting the project’s steady success.

First Time the Cubs Will Experience the Open Jungle

Kuno National Park is gradually shifting cheetahs from fenced enclosures to open forest landscapes, allowing tourists the chance to witness them in their natural habitat. For the December 4 event, preparations are in full swing. Senior forest officials, along with the district collectors and SPs of Sheopur and Shivpuri, have inspected arrangements.

Special Arrangements for the Chief Minister

A helipad has been prepared at the Ahira Gate of KNP, located within Shivpuri district boundaries, for the CM’s arrival. Dr. Mohan Yadav will enter the park from this gate. Forest Minister Vijay Shah, the district in-charge minister, and the local MP are also expected to accompany him.

The event is expected to bolster India’s wildlife conservation reputation globally and offer tourists an unforgettable experience in the wild.
