Air Quality in Delhi-NCR Deteriorates Again; Red Zone Alert Amid Fog and Chill

After a brief respite, the air quality in Delhi-NCR has worsened significantly, with several areas now falling in the Red Zone, causing breathing difficulties for residents. Dense fog returned on Tuesday morning, further reducing visibility and adding to the discomfort.

Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), and UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) show that the Air Quality Index (AQI) has crossed 300 in several locations, categorizing the air as “Very Poor.”

Delhi AQI Readings: Anand Vihar – 334, Chandni Chowk – 323, Nehru Nagar – 329, Okhla Phase-2 – 310, Patparganj – 301, R.K. Puram – 300. Areas like Punjabi Bagh (298), Rohini (281), and Ashok Vihar (287) also saw poor air quality, while Ayanagar (149) and Pusa (187) recorded relatively better levels.

NCR Conditions: In Ghaziabad, Indirapuram – 332, Loni – 314, Vasundhara – 318. Noida recorded AQI levels of Sector-125 – 304, Sector-1 – 307, Sector-116 – 294, and Sector-62 – 231.

Weather Outlook: The Meteorological Department predicts moderate fog over the next few days, with temperatures ranging between 8–10°C (min) and 20–23°C (max). Fog is expected in the mornings on February 4–8, with chilly conditions persisting throughout the day. No official weather warnings have been issued, but caution is advised during early morning and night hours.

Experts’ Insight: Specialists point out that western disturbances and snowfall in hilly regions are affecting the plains. Cold winds, fog, and low wind speed trap pollutants, worsening air quality. Residents are likely to experience dense morning fog and cold, damp conditions in the coming days.
