Patna: A pall of grief has descended over Kurji in Patna following the tragic air ambulance crash in Jharkhand’s Chatra district that claimed seven lives. Among the victims was 24-year-old paramedical staff member Sachin Kumar Mishra, whose life story was marked by early hardship and relentless struggle.
Originally a resident of Telkathu village under Hussain Ganj police station in Siwan district, Sachin’s family had been living in a rented house in Kurji, Patna, for the past 15 years. The ill-fated air ambulance was en route from Ranchi to Delhi when it crashed, killing all seven people on board.
Lost His Father in Childhood
Sachin lost his father, Jitendra Mishra, at a very young age. After the tragedy, the family shifted to Patna. His elder brother, Vineet Mishra, a priest by profession, took on the responsibility of raising him — nurturing and educating him like his own son.
“Sachin was very young when our father passed away. I raised him like my own child and ensured he received a proper education. After our father, he was the family’s biggest hope. Without him, our home feels incomplete,” said Vineet Mishra, struggling to hold back tears.
The middle brother works as a safety officer in Gujarat, while the youngest sibling is still pursuing his studies. Sachin also leaves behind a sister.
Dedicated to Healthcare
According to family members, Sachin had been associated with the nursing field since 2017. After completing his B.Sc. in Nursing, he had been working for the past three years as a paramedical staff member with Red Bird Air Ambulance.
The devastating news reached the family around 1 a.m. on Monday night from Chatra hospital. Chaos and sorrow engulfed the household. Sachin’s mother fainted upon hearing of her son’s death.
Family Alleges Lack of Support
The family rushed to Jharkhand by private vehicle the same night after learning about the accident. On Tuesday evening, they brought Sachin’s body back to Patna by road.
Vineet Mishra alleged that neither any official from the Red Bird company nor the Jharkhand government extended the expected assistance during this difficult time. “We faced immense difficulties in bringing his body back to Patna,” he said.
Final Farewell at Digha Ghat
As Sachin’s mortal remains reached Kurji, a large number of local residents gathered to pay their respects. His last rites were performed at Digha Ghat in Patna, where his elder brother lit the funeral pyre.
The grieving family has demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the crash and appropriate action against those found responsible.
For a family that had already endured the loss of a father, Sachin was the beacon of hope — the ‘light of the home.’ With his untimely death, that light has tragically been extinguished.
