New Delhi: In the Union Budget 2026-27, the Delhi government’s premier medical institute, AIIMS, has seen a budget increase of over ₹300 crore compared to last year. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget on Sunday, allocating ₹5,500.92 crore for AIIMS Delhi. However, other major hospitals in the capital, including Safdarjung Hospital, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, and Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital, have faced budget cuts.
Budget Details for AIIMS
AIIMS’s budget has increased in line with the growing patient load at the institute:
- 2024-25: ₹4,909.33 crore
- 2025-26: ₹5,200 crore
- 2026-27: ₹5,500.92 crore
Other Hospitals See Reductions
Meanwhile, several other key hospitals have experienced slight reductions in their allocations:
- Safdarjung Hospital: Reduced from ₹2,179 crore to ₹2,170 crore
- Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital: Reduced from ₹1,458 crore to ₹1,450 crore
- Lady Hardinge Medical College: Reduced from ₹800 crore to ₹795 crore
- Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital: Reduced from ₹183 crore to ₹182 crore
Implications
While AIIMS continues to receive increased funding to meet its expanding patient demands and maintain its premier medical facilities, the slight budget cuts for other hospitals have raised concerns among healthcare professionals about resource allocation for essential services across Delhi.
