Agra’s 10-Year-Old Ajay Raj Receives National Bravery Award for Saving Father from Crocodile Attack

Agra: Ten-year-old Ajay Raj from Agra has been honored with the Prime Minister’s National Children’s Award 2025 (Courage Category) by President Draupadi Murmu. The award recognizes his extraordinary bravery on 25 July 2025, when he saved his father from a crocodile attack. Ajay received a medal, a certificate of appreciation, and a cash prize of ₹1 lakh for his heroic act.

A Child’s Courage Against a Deadly Crocodile
The incident occurred near the Chambal River in the village of Jharnapura, Basuni Baha area. Ajay’s father, Veerbhān, was tending to goats around 2 PM when he went into the river to fill a water bottle. Suddenly, a crocodile emerged and clamped its jaws around Veerbhān’s leg, dragging him into deep water.

Hearing his father’s cries, Ajay immediately jumped into the river with a stick in hand. Demonstrating remarkable courage, he struck the crocodile around 10 times on its mouth. When the reptile did not release its grip, Ajay smartly targeted its eyes, striking five times. Startled, the crocodile loosened its hold and retreated into deeper water.

Community and Official Praise
Ajay helped his father out of the river, after which villagers rushed Veerbhān to the hospital. News of Ajay’s bravery quickly spread, earning admiration from the entire community. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally congratulated the young hero. The Agra district administration nominated Ajay for the National Children’s Award, and his courageous act was highlighted during the award ceremony in New Delhi.

Ajay’s Determination
Reflecting on the incident, Ajay Raj said, “My goal was to save my father at any cost. I did whatever I could to protect him.” His courage and quick thinking have made him a role model for children and adults alike.
