Agra Water Crisis: Giant Water Tank Collapses in 5 Seconds, Residents Struggle Without Supply

Agra, Uttar Pradesh – A dilapidated water tank in Kalindi Vihar, Agra, collapsed, disrupting water supply in the area for the past three days and leaving residents facing a severe water shortage. The dramatic incident, which was captured on video, has gone viral on social media.

The Collapse
The cemented water tank had become structurally unsound over time. On 24 January, the local water department demolished the tank. The viral footage shows the entire tank collapsing in just five seconds. The heavy debris struck the underground water tank beneath, damaging its walls and contaminating the stored water with rubble and debris. As a result, hundreds of households have been left without water.

Impact on Residents
Local residents reported that no alternative water arrangements were provided following the tank’s demolition, forcing them to rely on tankers and handpumps to meet daily needs. “It has been three days, and the water supply has not been fully restored. We have to walk long distances for basic water needs,” said resident Prem Shankar.

Efforts to Restore Water Supply
Authorities have confirmed that repair and cleaning work is underway for the damaged underground tank. The Water Department’s General Manager stated that efforts are being made to restore normal water supply as soon as possible.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents and raised concerns over the planning and safety measures followed during demolition.
