Agra:
The process to deport 38 Bangladeshi nationals illegally residing in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district has been formally initiated. The Agra Police will take all 38 individuals into custody on January 10 and escort them under tight security to West Bengal, where they will be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF). The BSF is scheduled to deport them to Bangladesh on January 13.
According to police officials, out of the 38 Bangladeshi nationals, 30 are currently lodged in the district jail, having completed a three-year sentence under the Foreigners Act. The remaining eight are minors—including five boys and three girls—who are presently staying in a shelter home. Authorities have decided to deport all of them together as per legal provisions.
Illegal Settlement Exposed in 2023
Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar stated that in February 2023, an illegal settlement was uncovered in Sector-13 of the Awas Vikas Colony under the Sikandra police station area. Investigations revealed that a large number of Bangladeshi nationals had crossed the border illegally and were living in Agra, primarily engaged in scrap-related work.
During the operation, police recovered documents such as Aadhaar cards and voter ID cards from the accused. Subsequent verification confirmed that these documents were forged. Following this, cases were registered at Sikandra police station, and action was taken against them under the Foreigners Act.
Court Orders and Legal Procedure
After completing their sentences, court orders were issued for their release, making deportation mandatory under existing rules. Senior police officials emphasized that deportation is essential, as failure to do so could allow them to move to other districts and resume illegal residence.
Coordination with BSF and Intelligence Agencies
The Agra Police have already coordinated with the BSF to ensure a smooth deportation process. On Thursday, a team from the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) visited the district jail to collect necessary information. Officials confirmed that 23 men and seven women are currently lodged in the jail, while the minors remain in the shelter home.
Police authorities further stated that BSF officials have already informed Bangladeshi security agencies about the impending deportation. Several such deportations have taken place from Agra in the past as well, and this operation will also be carried out strictly in accordance with established security protocols and legal standards.
