Agra: A serious controversy has erupted in Agra’s Kirawali police station after allegations surfaced that a young man was subjected to third-degree torture during a murder investigation, leaving him with fractures in both legs. The incident has triggered immediate administrative action against the officers involved.
Alleged Third-Degree Torture
The victim, Raju, from Karhara village, was reportedly pressured to confess to a murder committed on August 5, in which ex-army man Balbir Singh was killed. Four months after the crime, the case remained unsolved. According to his family, Raju was summoned for questioning after his elder brother Satyaprakash was called to the station on December 20. During interrogation, he was allegedly beaten and forced to admit to the crime, resulting in him losing consciousness and sustaining serious leg injuries. He was later admitted to the hospital in a private vehicle.
Initial Misrepresentation by Police
When the case came to light, DCP West Atul Sharma sought clarification from the station in-charge. Initially, the injuries were downplayed as minor. However, after personally reviewing Raju’s X-ray reports at Kirawali Hospital, the DCP confirmed that both of his legs were fractured, highlighting the severity of the incident.
Administrative Action Taken
Following the revelations, ACP Achnera Ram Pravesh Gupta has been transferred for negligence. Kirawali Station Officer Neeraj Kumar, SI Dharmveer, and constable Ravi have been suspended. Shailendra Kumar has been appointed as the new ACP of Achnera, while Satyavir takes charge of Kirawali Police Station.
The police department has announced an internal inquiry into the matter to ensure accountability and prevent such incidents in the future.
