Agra: Abhishek, son of former GST Commissioner Kumod Mathur and resident of New Friends Colony, Delhi, has been revealed as a major fraudster involved in cheating jewelers across several districts, including Agra, Mathura, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh. Following complaints filed in Agra, police investigations have uncovered that Abhishek’s scams may have caused losses exceeding ₹1 crore.
Fraudulent Modus Operandi
According to police, Abhishek would contact jewelers through a known intermediary and visit showrooms to purchase jewelry. He would pay with fake cheques or delay payments. Eight months ago, he allegedly acquired a gold chain from a showroom owner but never made the payment.
On 17 December, a fraud case was registered at Hariparvat Police Station against the former GST Commissioner and his son. Victim Yogesh Agrawal of AP Jewelers stated that Abhishek, through an acquaintance named Brijmohan Tapadia, approached him on 19 November for jewelry purchase. Abhishek visited the showroom on 20 November and took five gold chains worth ₹19 lakh, issuing a bogus cheque as payment. When AP Jewelers’ staff visited his residence at Alora Enclave, Dayalbagh, they discovered that he had sold the house back in July and moved out.
Film-Like Deception Across States
Police sources confirmed that Abhishek executed similar scams in Mathura and Madhya Pradesh. He would contact jewelers through intermediaries, visit showrooms, acquire jewelry, and avoid payments. Authorities suspect that the total fraud may exceed ₹1 crore. Investigations began after the complaint by Yogesh Agrawal of AP Jewelers.
Chains Sold in Haryana and Delhi
During police questioning, Abhishek admitted to selling the defrauded gold chains to jewelers in Haryana and Delhi. Police accompanied him to these states to recover the stolen jewelry, and efforts are ongoing. Additional DCP Aditya Kumar confirmed that multiple fraud cases against Abhishek are under investigation.
