Gorakhpur Cyber Crime News: In a shocking cybercrime incident, the WhatsApp account of Dr. Vibhag Datta, Executive Director of Gorakhpur AIIMS, was hacked. The hacker impersonated the director and began demanding money from multiple people via WhatsApp and social media, including an MBBS student, who was asked to send ₹50,000.
How the Hack Occurred
According to police sources, Dr. Datta had placed an online order for delivery scheduled on Friday. On the morning of delivery, the delivery person called her, citing difficulty in completing the delivery, and requested her mobile number. It is alleged that during this interaction, cybercriminals managed to hack her WhatsApp account, possibly exploiting vulnerabilities during the online transaction.
The hacker then misused Dr. Datta’s identity to contact acquaintances and individuals associated with the institution, demanding money.
MBBS Student Escapes Scam
The hacker targeted an MBBS student with a request to transfer ₹50,000. Suspicious of the unusual demand, the student discussed the matter with their professor. The incident came to Dr. Datta’s attention, prompting her to alert the public about the hack. Awareness quickly spread, and both the Cyber Crime Cell and AIIMS police station were informed. The police have launched a full investigation into the matter.

Several high-ranking officials in Gorakhpur, including the former SSP, ADG, and Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Singh Sograwal, have previously fallen victim to cybercriminals who hacked their phones.
