Contaminated water is being supplied in Greater Noida, a city adjoining Delhi. Many residents have fallen ill after consuming this water. Despite multiple complaints, no action has been taken by the authorities.
Greater Noida:
After several deaths in Indore due to contaminated water, a similar issue has emerged in Greater Noida, where many people in Sector Delta 1, Block C, have fallen ill after drinking contaminated water. These residents have reported symptoms such as vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea. All affected individuals have been hospitalized. The Resident Welfare Association (RWA) claims that for the past three days, the main pipeline supplying water to homes has been contaminated with sewage water, making the water dirty and foul-smelling. Despite repeated complaints, the Greater Noida Authority has not taken any action.
Residents say that even after 17 people lost their lives in Indore due to contaminated water, the authorities here have failed to take the matter seriously. Pramod Bhati, the President of Delta 1 RWA, said that the concerned department has failed to ensure the supply of clean water to the residents of this prominent sector of the city.
Water Contamination in Sector Delta 1 Block C
Pramod Bhati further explained that residents of houses in Block C, from 152 to 202, have fallen ill after drinking contaminated water. Often, the water has such a bad odor that it is not usable. As a result of drinking this contaminated water, eight people have fallen ill, with many being hospitalized. Even on Tuesday afternoon, dirty water was supplied to homes. Most residents have stopped drinking the water from the supply and are now forced to buy water from outside.
Old Water and Sewerage Lines Not Repaired
Alok Nagar, General Secretary of Delta 2 RWA, mentioned that the city has been developed for many years, but the water and sewer lines were laid during the initial construction of the sectors and have not been repaired since. Due to the old and damaged water and sewer pipelines, there are frequent leaks, and the water supply gets contaminated with sewage water. There is no proper system for the disposal of sewage water, which adds to the problem.
Residents Speak About Falling Ill After Drinking Contaminated Water
Vijay Singh, a resident of Sector Delta 1, Block C, said that he fell ill after drinking the contaminated water. He suffered from stomach pain and persistent vomiting. After seeing a doctor and taking medicine, he found some relief.
Shashi, a resident of the sector, shared that for the past three days, dirty water has been mixing with the main supply in her house. On Monday, her daughter became ill after drinking the contaminated water. She had vomiting and severe stomach pain. Despite taking medicine from a local medical store, the vomiting did not stop. Eventually, they consulted a doctor at a private hospital in Alpha 2, where the doctor confirmed that the illness was due to an infection caused by drinking contaminated water.
