Raipur: In a major breakthrough against Naxalism in Chhattisgarh, 12 heavily armed Naxals, including central committee member Ramdher Majji, surrendered to security forces in Khairagarh. Ramdher, who rose from the tribal regions of Chhattisgarh to become a key Maoist leader, laid down his arms along with 11 of his associates, marking one of the largest mass surrenders in recent years.
Ramdher Majji Active in North Bastar
Ramdher Majji, a dominant figure in the North Bastar division, surrendered at Kumhi village, Bakarkatta police station. Among those who laid down arms were Divisional Committee members Chandu Usendi, Lalita, Janki, and Prem. Two of them were armed with AK-47 and INSAS rifles. Area Committee members Ram Singh Dada and Sukesh Pottam, along with party members Laxmi, Sheela, Yogita, Kavita, and Sagar, also surrendered. Police are interrogating all 12 Naxals to gather intelligence on their networks and operations.
One-Crore Bounty on Ramdher
Following the encounter of Hidma, Ramdher’s influence in Bastar was considerable. A bounty of around Rs 1 crore was on his head, and he was known to carry an AK-47. As MMC Zone commander, he masterminded several high-profile attacks, making his surrender a significant blow to the Naxal organization. His security reportedly involved three layers of protection, underscoring his importance in the hierarchy.
Similar Surrenders in Madhya Pradesh
Just a day earlier, senior Naxal leader Kabir surrendered with his associates in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat, handing over AK-47s, INSAS, and SLR rifles. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav personally received the surrendered Naxals.
Impact on the Naxal Movement
The surrender of prominent leaders like Ramdher Majji is a major setback for the Naxal organization. As a Central Committee member, his role was critical in operational planning and organizational morale. These developments indicate a weakening of the Naxal movement across Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, as security forces continue to mount pressure on the insurgents.
