Shimla: Resident doctors at IGMC Shimla have called off their strike following an appeal from Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The doctors had initiated the strike in protest over an alleged assault on a patient, demanding accountability and action.
Assurance of Re-investigation and Revocation of Dismissal
The Chief Minister assured the doctors that a thorough re-investigation into the incident would be conducted and confirmed that the dismissal of Dr. Raghav Nirula would be revoked. Sohil Sharma, President of the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), stated that the doctors would fully cooperate with the investigation as long as the dismissal order remained revoked. Earlier in the day, CM Sukhu mentioned that government decisions could be reviewed if necessary.
Appeal to Return to Duty
Upon returning from Delhi, the CM urged the doctors to set aside differences and resume their duties from Monday. He announced that senior IGMC doctors would be invited to discuss the issue and seek an appropriate resolution.
Earlier Meetings with Doctors
CM Sukhu noted that he had personally met with the doctors’ delegation on 26 December to address the matter. He remarked that the doctors chose to go on strike instead of trusting the assurances provided. The Chief Minister emphasized that he personally engaged with the delegation rather than delegating the task to the Health Minister or Secretary, highlighting his commitment to resolving the matter.
The strike’s conclusion marks a critical step in restoring hospital services and ensuring patient care continues uninterrupted at IGMC Shimla.
