After Bihar, It’s Now UP’s Turn: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Submits SIR Form as Voter List Purification Begins

The process of purifying and updating the voter list has begun across Uttar Pradesh under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive. As part of this exercise, citizens are required to fill out SIR forms to update or verify their voter information. Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh also submitted his SIR form in the state capital on Sunday.

Rajnath Singh Hands Over SIR Form to SDM Sadar

During his Lucknow visit, Rajnath Singh completed the SIR formalities and handed over his form to SDM Sadar Manoj Singh. The Defence Minister attended several events in the city and took time to participate in the ongoing voter list purification process. Since he is a registered voter in Lucknow and regularly casts his vote here in municipal, assembly, and parliamentary elections, he too was required to submit the SIR form like all other voters.

SIR Drive Gains Momentum Across UP

Following the completion of the SIR process in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh is now witnessing a fast-paced implementation of the same. The Election Commission has launched the revision exercise ahead of upcoming panchayat and assembly elections. BLOs (Booth Level Officers) have been instructed to distribute and collect the forms from all eligible voters.

The SIR activity has also sparked political debate. The Samajwadi Party has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer demanding that calculation forms be promptly provided to all 15,44,30,092 registered voters of the state so their details can be submitted on time and their names are not removed from the draft roll, which will be published on December 9.

Election Commission Issues Detailed Guidelines

According to the Election Commission, BLOs across 403 assembly constituencies and 1,62,486 polling stations are carrying out the SIR exercise from November 4 to December 4. Voters are required to fill out the calculation form and return it to the BLO within the deadline.

Officials have also urged families to report details of voters who have passed away or permanently moved away so that the electoral roll can be accurately updated.

The final voter list will be published on February 7, 2026, and is expected to be fully updated and error-free with cooperation from all voters.
