The Incident
On the night of 14 October, a high-speed sleeper bus on the Jaisalmer highway suddenly caught fire. Passengers had no chance to escape as the bus lacked an emergency exit. The burning vehicle traveled nearly a kilometer before it could be stopped. Some passengers broke the windows to escape, while others jumped out while engulfed in flames. The tragedy left a deep scar across the state, with several families losing three or more members.
A Father and Sole Breadwinner Lost
According to Jaisalmer Police, the deceased, Obedulla, hailed from Gomta village near Pokaran and worked as a Senior Technical Officer at the Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Jaisalmer. Local residents shared that he was a father to five daughters and the sole provider for his family. His passing leaves behind a widow and five young daughters, raising concerns in the community about who will care for them.
The Jaisalmer bus fire tragedy remains one of the most devastating accidents in Rajasthan in recent times, leaving behind grief, shattered families, and urgent questions about passenger safety on highways.
