Bhopal: After the much-discussed 90-degree Ashbagh bridge, another unusual and alarming example of poor urban planning has surfaced in Madhya Pradesh’s capital. In Bhopal’s Karond area, a public road has reportedly been constructed directly beneath a high-tension electricity tower, creating a serious safety hazard for residents.

Locals have started calling the stretch the “Eiffel Tower Road”, as the tower standing above the road resembles the iconic structure from a distance. However, what looks amusing on social media is raising major concerns on the ground, especially due to the constant fear of electric shock and current leakage.

Road Passes Directly Under High-Tension Tower

The high-tension tower is located in Vinayak Colony, Karond, and has been standing there for several years. Shockingly, a road has been laid directly under the structure, and it is regularly used by pedestrians, motorcyclists, and cars.

Residents claim that larger vehicles often struggle to pass through the narrow and risky stretch.

Population Growth Increased the Danger

According to locals, the area initially had no major residential settlements when the tower was installed. Over time, the locality developed into a densely populated residential zone, turning the tower into a constant danger for thousands of people living nearby.

The risk becomes even more serious during the rainy season, when residents fear possible current spread, short circuits, or accidents due to waterlogging and moisture.

Residents Demand Tower Relocation

Local people have urged the administration and the power department to take immediate action and shift the tower to a safer location. Many residents stated that since Bhopal is a state capital, such unsafe infrastructure should not be allowed to remain in a populated area.

Power Company Facing Difficulties in Shifting Tower

Officials of the electricity department have reportedly acknowledged the issue and are examining the matter. However, they claim there are technical and administrative difficulties in relocating the tower.

The issue has again come into public attention after videos and photos of the site surfaced on social media, triggering widespread criticism and concern.

Another Case of Faulty Planning in Bhopal

The high-tension tower road has now become the latest addition to Bhopal’s list of controversial infrastructure projects, after the unusual Ashbagh 90-degree bridge and other debated constructions.

Residents have demanded urgent intervention, warning that the tower poses a daily threat, especially to children and elderly people, and that any delay could lead to a major accident.
