In a major breakthrough, Balaghat Police have busted a sophisticated racket involved in tampering with Aadhaar’s highly sensitive biometric system. The mastermind, Mohsin Khan (39), a software engineer from Mayol Nagar, Bharveli, has been arrested for cloning fingerprints and iris data to carry out illegal Aadhaar updation for years. Authorities believe more shocking revelations may follow as the investigation deepens.
VPN Used to Mask Location, Operated Illegal Center Remotely
According to the police, Khan cleverly used VPNs to mask the actual location of Aadhaar updation devices, making it appear as if operations were being done from authorised centres. In reality, he was running the entire illegal updation network from his residence in Bharveli.
Illegal Network Active for 14 Years
The investigation has revealed that since 2011, Mohsin Khan had been running an unauthorised Aadhaar updation setup from Trivedi Complex, Bharveli, using MP Online and Bank of Baroda kiosks as a façade. Shockingly, he had no official approval for Aadhaar updation activities over the past 14 years.
Cloned Biometric Login System
Police uncovered that Khan submitted Aadhaar updation tenders using the names of relatives and acquaintances. After the tenders were approved, he retained the authorised machines and operator IDs.
- He created fake fingerprint clones of authorised operators to log into the system.
- For iris authentication, he used digitally cloned artificial eyes.
This allowed him to bypass strict biometric verification and carry out fraudulent updates undetected.
Administrative Links Shielded the Accused
Sources claim that the accused enjoyed strong administrative connections, which helped him evade detection for years. Police have now seized:
- Laptops
- Dummy fingerprints
- Fake iris prints
- Devices used for biometric cloning
- Other high-tech equipment used in the forgery
Network Under Investigation – More Arrests Likely
SDOP Nihit Upadhyay confirmed that the illegal operation had been active for several years and the network could be much wider than initially believed. Investigations are ongoing, and officials expect more major revelations as they track down associates and beneficiaries.
