Aadhaar-Based Registration Now Mandatory at Rajasthan Government Hospitals

In a major policy update, the Rajasthan government has made Aadhaar or Jan-Aadhaar mandatory for outpatient (OPD) registration at all state-run hospitals. The decision, issued by the Health Department on 22 December, aims to streamline patient data management and accelerate the ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) ID registration process.

Mandatory for OPD Registration
According to the order, all patients visiting government medical institutions must present their Aadhaar or Jan-Aadhaar number at the time of OPD registration. District administrations have also been instructed to strictly monitor compliance, and any violation of the directive will invite action.

Uncertainty for Patients Without Aadhaar
While the initiative is expected to improve record-keeping and efficiency, officials have yet to clarify how patients without Aadhaar or Jan-Aadhaar will receive treatment.

ABHA ID Registration to be Enforced
The Health Department has further directed that all patients registering at government hospitals and clinics must create an ABHA ID. Chief Medical and Health Officers and divisional joint directors are tasked with preparing reports on ABHA ID registrations at block and institutional levels.

Digital Integration Emphasized
All offline OPD entries must be uploaded to the online system within 24 hours. District authorities are responsible for linking ABHA IDs with the Integrated Health Management System and other relevant digital platforms, ensuring a seamless digital healthcare record system across the state.
