A Wedding Like No Other: Bride Met with Accident Before Rituals, Groom Marries Her Inside Kochi Hospital

Kochi witnessed an extraordinary wedding on Friday when a bride, who was severely injured in a road accident just hours before her ceremony, was married inside a hospital’s emergency department. Determined to honour the auspicious date and the couple’s long-awaited union, both families turned the hospital into an unexpected wedding venue.

Auspicious Muhurat, Unshaken Commitment

The bride and groom, along with their families, decided that the marriage must take place on the scheduled day despite the crisis. The wedding was solemnised inside the VPS Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi, where medical staff and a handful of close relatives stood witness to this rare and heartwarming moment.

There were no decorations, no music, and no traditional celebrations—only love, courage, and a deep sense of togetherness.

Bride Injured in Road Accident Hours Before Wedding

The ceremony was originally planned for Friday afternoon. However, at around 3 AM, while the bride was travelling with relatives to Kumarakom for her bridal makeup, their vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree. Passersby rushed the injured to Kottayam Medical College.
Due to severe spinal injuries, the bride was later shifted nearly 70 km away to VPS Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi for specialised treatment.

As soon as the groom and his family learned about the accident, they immediately reached the hospital. Both families then approached the hospital administration, requesting that the wedding be conducted the same day.

After consulting the doctors and ensuring that it would not hinder the patient’s treatment, the administration permitted the ceremony inside the emergency department.

Hospital Staff Became Silent Witnesses

Doctors, nurses, and support staff paused their routine duties briefly to witness this emotional union.
The bride, a school teacher at Bishop Moore School in Cherthala, and the groom, an assistant professor at KVM College of Engineering and Information Technology, exchanged vows with quiet dignity, promising to stand by each other through every challenge life may bring.

The hospital authorities said they allowed the ceremony because the accident occurred on the bride’s most important day, and the families wanted to honour the auspicious timing.

Bride’s Condition Stable, Surgery Required

Dr. Sudheesh Karunakaran, Head of Neurosurgery at Lakeshore Hospital, confirmed that the bride is stable but will require surgery.
Her treatment is ongoing, and doctors are optimistic about her recovery.
